Plans for Spring Swap in light of COVID-19 - 5 years ago
I think it's still possible to have a small and time-limited version of the spring swap, BUT we will have to do it a little different this year. I anticipate having far fewer people, and I don't plan on doing any advertisement or promotion to bring in any new participants. I have canceled our reservation at New Harvest Park. Hey Salviaflower...welcome to the website. I think all of the stuff you mentioned would be interesting to me, and I think it would go over very well. I will say that sometimes I am not the best at predicting what people will want. A lot of times I bring really rare neat stuff and there's not much interest. Huernias, except for zebrina (which I already have). Known-cultivar mulberry. I already have "Dwarf Everbearing", but would like anything else as long as you know which cultivar it is. Any known-cultivar osage orange. Thornless cultivars would be extra dreamy. Another Successful Swap - 6 years ago
Today's swap went well. We had 24 attendees (not including the two kittens). That's about average for a fall swap. Quite a few (about half) stayed for the potluck lunch this time. Everything I ate was really really good. At least some attendees were first-time swappers. I think everyone left with more plants than they expected. Also from Martha (moved here from another topic): Barrett has made reusable signs for each of the "regulars" to use to mark your spaces. We will take them up and return for each swap. We always have questions as to whose items are on which table, this ought to help. He also made a sign to go out front as we always have visitors who are wondering what is going on. DLundy, I have a bunch of different holiday cactuses. Some are either too small or too slow growing to take cuttings from, but I think I could get cuttings (at least small ones) from any of the list below. There are the same as the ones I brought for the spring swap, so the cuttings won't be large but should be big enough to easily root and grow. Let me know which you'd like. Friendly People, Interesting Plants, and Great Food - 6 years ago
We had another great swap today. Even though it was raining, we had around 50 to 55 people (getting an accurate count was like herding cats). The food was really good too. I won't mention anything particular because I don't want to leave anyone's great cooking out, but man there was some good stuff! Quite a few people stayed to socialize. Samantha, I should have plenty of tomato plants at the swap. Try to catch me early so you can have your pick. I probably won't have a whole lot of any one particular cultivar. Kim, I put you down for two A.R.German Green tomatoes. I grew them for the first time last year and was extremely impressed. Two plants should give you enough tomatoes to enjoy. I would be interested in your Rise-n-Shine rose, but I don't know if two tomato plants would be worth a rose. We need a lot more participation with the potluck meal following the swap. Last fall was VERY disappointing with only one other person staying for the meal.
